Week 5 Lecture

Week 5 lecture talked about consumption and production. In past days people are more like consumption consumers, get entertained in more passive ways, such as cinema and television (not means that people nowadays don't use them anymore). These things are more passive comparing to contemporary medias like computer (which is more interactive) and personal media player. Just like things went from consumption to production, ordinary people are playing quite important roles in modern media, like citizen journalists.

Week 4 Lecture

This week lecture talked about film history and this really helped me get through the idea about the development of film industry. This entry I'll put some dates in the film industry, that I thought were quite important.
1895 28 Dec - First film, 10 x 2min
1906 - First full length movie, created in Australia!
1921 - First movie with sound, "Dream Street"
1923 - First movie with color
1929 - First Oscar
1937 - Disney debut, "Snow White"
1939 - "Gone with the Wind"
1952 - First 3D movie
1955 - Movies on TV
1967 - First portable, out-of-studio camera, "One & Only"
1970 - IMAX
1971 - Blockbuster
1972 - Porn...

Week 2 Lecture

Shot sizes: VLS / LS / MLS / MS / MCU / CU / BCU / ECU
Different shot sizes can be applied to specific scenes, like CU to stress the character, LS to stress place and VLS to stress time.

Room: Head room, Talking room
To make sure appropriate head room and talking room for the character.

Rule of Thirds:

The 180 Rule:

Pickpocket

It was very fun to make a slideshow like this, we had to take many different aspects into consideration such as time, place, characters and storyline, what kind of shot should be used in different shoots, how to show the emotion of a character. Also what photos to select to make the slideshow clear and not confusing.
